Work As A Family!

“While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me.”
As we prepare for Mother’s Day I would like us to spend a few moments thinking about our families. Jesus guarded the spiritual growth of his disciples by protecting their minds. As biological and spiritual families, we need to help protect the minds of those around us. This is a huge task to accomplish in today’s culture. I believe that sometimes we forget that children are not miniature adults, and that we need to protect the innocence of our children as they are growing up.
However as adults we need to also remember to protect our minds. Many times we attempt to get as close to the fire as we can without being burned. Our minds are a special gift from God, and it is a gift that God desires to use to accomplish that special calling He has placed on each of our lives.
We should care about their minds. I am constantly reminding my children that they should be careful what they bring into their lives; recreationally, spiritually, academically.
I love Paul’s instruction to the church of Philippi when he says “ I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditation on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” Philippians 4:8-9
Sometimes we need those who are close to us to help us with this struggle. Let’s commit together to help one another protect our minds.
I am looking forward to seeing you this weekend.
